„I started working with weaving before approaching ceramics. I am from Chile, and in Latin American cultures there is a strong connection between textiles, language, and their use as devices for recording and transmitting knowledge. As an artist, I am deeply engaged with materiality and with finding ways to translate one form into another and to create new connections.
In this sense, I translate textiles into ceramics as an act of exchange and an attempt to recreate their physical presence. It is an effort to sustain a fixed gesture for a moment. From my perspective, the result is contradictory: an attempt to capture the softness and fluidity of weaving in a material that is at once rigid and fragile.
The ceramic works in these exhibitions emerge directly from my research into string figures, which I have been studying as a transcultural phenomenon, as well as from my exploration of the act of notation itself.“
