Codes in Knots – 3D gedrucktes Knotennetz, Izote Faser, Baumwollgarn, ca. 120 x 15 cm
„My work has been based on collaborative networks and feminist narratives that are manifested in my projects. ‚Codes in Knots‘ was a project that explored the relationship between pre-colonial textile-based information technology with the quipus-knotted artifacts- and design. Based on the observation that textiles were used to write, store and transmit data and information in many pre-columbian societies, the project aims to translate such technology into the digital, creating a feminist fictional system to write. To this end, research is being conducted on the functioning of the quipus, a knot-based information device used by Andean peoples, with the most famous devices dating back to the Inca Empire. The goal of the project was to create knotted surfaces containing words in an encrypted form. In this way, ‚Codes in Knots‘ reflects on the complex methods of communicating and coordinating human activity through artifacts in general and textiles in particular, explored the potential of digital tools to create meaningful objects, and promoted a feminist perspective on the field of design.“
